Raw Material and Formulation Cost

PVC resin, plasticizer, stabilizer, pigment, primer, and surface coating all affect cost. A lower quote may use a cheaper formulation that trims poorly, cracks in cold weather, or changes color under light exposure.

For furniture-grade PVC edge banding, the buyer should compare material grade, not only price per meter.

Buyers should compare quotes using the same thickness, width, roll length, and tolerance. A quote for 0.45mm cannot be compared directly with 0.5mm.

Color, Printing, and Surface Finish

Solid color PVC edge banding is usually simpler to produce than wood grain or marble patterns. Wood grain requires printing, texture matching, and color control across batches.

High gloss, super matte, soft-touch, metallic, and anti-fingerprint finishes add coating or film costs. These products should be evaluated by sample, not only catalog photo.

For distributors, the best strategy is often to build a stock color program around fast-moving colors, then use custom colors only when customer demand is confirmed.

Packaging and Labeling

Packaging is a small part of the quote but a large part of customer experience. Poor labels, weak cartons, or roll deformation can create warehouse problems even when the material is good.

Private-label packaging, barcode labels, and customized carton marks add cost, but they help distributors sell under their own brand.

Freight and Landed Cost

PVC edge banding is dense enough that sea freight is usually more economical than air freight for bulk orders. For small urgent samples, DHL or FedEx is faster but expensive per meter.

When comparing suppliers, calculate landed cost: FOB product cost + inland transport + sea freight + insurance + customs duty + destination charges.
